Albert C. Harrison to Cornelia Harrison, 22 February 1864
Head Qrs. Amb. Corps.
3d Division, 3d Army Corps
Brandy Station, Va.
Feb 22d/64

Dear Mother
It is rather late to write a letter. still I might as well write you a few lines tonight as I will not have the opportunity on the morrow if God spares my life, as I will be out after oysters in the morning, and must finish my chimney in the afternoon. I have been building me a new chimney. I think I will have the mason's trade perfect by the time my term of service expires if not sooner.

I have but just returned from the Regiment. I went over to sign the Pay Rolls. We will receive our pay about / Thursday if nothing turns up to hinder. The Boys are most all of them on picket. There is no news of any importance hereabouts.

Yours of the 19th came to hand this afternoon and I was very glad to hear Aunt Hannah was getting better. I think I told you in my last that I had written to Clemmy but I never expect to hear from her. How is she anyhow? and how does the Gall look. I have not heard from Peter Lauliss lately.

The weather is lovely. it is a splendid night. I expect there are big times in Jersey tonight celebrating Washingtons Birth Day / That reminds me of my own, it will soon be here. Winter is well nigh fled before I was hardly aware of it. But I feel sleepy I must to bed and try to finish early in the morn God willing. Good night. pleasant dreams of the war & warriors.

Feb 24th. Dear Mother I will now try and finish my letter which I began day before yesterday and until now been unable to finish. I have just returned from Corps Head Quarters all is quiet. it is a lovely day. We have Inspection this morning so I must be brief. I received a paper with your letter. I think you / have sent me the same paper before. I saw but one death in it.

I think we will be paid this afternoon or tomorrow, two months pay. I will send $20. if I have any more to send after I settle my wash bill I will send it by mail. it is probable we will be paid again in a short time as we have two months pay due us the last of this month.

Give my love to John & remember me to enquiring friends. Write soon

May Heaven protect you at home.

Your loving Son
Albert
