Camp of the Amb. Corps
3d Div. 3d A.C.
Brandy Station, Va.
March 7th/64.
Dear Mother
Yours of the 3d came duly to hand and I was happy to hear from you that you were well. It is a splendid morning the birds have been singing gaily, the robins are quite numerous. Still we lay off in our good quarters & smoke our pipes in peace.
I dont think we will move in some time yet unless something unusual turns up. There is no news of any importance at the present time. we are anxiously awaiting a true account / of the whereabouts of our Cavalry, as also from General Butlers expedition.
I think we will hear something from him today, as its most time he turned up some where.
The meetings still continue and crowned with success. 17 came forward last night The Boys are all well and will soon be in their new quarters that they have been at work building for the past two weeks on a higher piece of ground.
I received a letter from my old friend Peter Lanlis. he is getting along finely thinks of coming to the / Bank in June if nothing breaks. I saw Esec a few days ago. he looks well & wished to be remembered. he has been trying hard for a furlough as his Mother has been very sick. I hope he will finally succeed in getting one.
I dont think there is any use in my looking out for John, for he will not be drafted he is to lucky for that, like myself one of the lucky kind. anyhow its better to be born lucky than rich as the saying is & I believe it.
as to your being a nurse in the Army, I think / before you were out long you would want some one to care for you.
Remember me to the Doctor & family. as to my making anything smart I think thats where they are a little off the track. I should love to see little Clara's likeness. I'm sure it must look sweet. I have seen nothing of Mr Johnson.
I am glad you received the check, you must use what you want of it, even if you want it all.
I must detail some men to cut wood, so I will now close. write soon. I hope this may find you all in good health as it leaves me. May God bless you.
Albert Your loving Son
