Camp of the Amb. Corps
3d Division, 6th Army Corps
Brandy Station, Va.
April 19th 1864.
Dear Mother,
Being at leisure for a few moments this morning I will scratch you a few lines, as I hear communication is to cease for the space of thirty days by order of Genl Grant. I think it will commence in a few days if the weather continues fair for we will make some grand movement in some direction, so if you dont chance to hear from me, you need not think strange, but it will not hinder you from writing as we can receive letters but send none from the Army, and it is a good plan for there is more or less news will leak out and get to the ears of the Enemy. so trust in God and all will be well. There is no news of any consequence. Our Train will very soon be in prime order and was never in better condition than at the present time, and we have good horses.
our Corps was reviewed by Genl Grant / yesterday. I can tell you he has an eye like an eagle and can see everything at a glance. But he looks no smarter than he really is. I have faith that we will either conquer or be conquered before the fall shall arrive and may God be with us, for with His Mighty Arm we can accomplish our end.
But I must now close as my time will not allow me to write more, so with my kind regards to all & love to you & John I ever remain your Affect Son
Albert.
Write Soon.
