Headquarters Amb. Corps
3d Division, 6th A.C.
Brandy Station, Va.
May 1st /64.
My Dear Mother,
It is Sabbath evening and I am on guard and I must do something to pass time away and that something will be to write you a few lines to inform by the kind mercies of God that I am still in the land of the living and in the enjoyment of good health, earnestly hoping these few lines may find you all the same.
I have been on duty all day and was sorry it so happened for I wanted to attend Church this morning as there was preaching by a Minister of the / Gospel from Long Island, N.Y. and being on guard hindered me from going over tonight. I know they must have had an excellent meeting.
Dear Mother you cannot imagine what heavenly meetings we are enjoying. our Regiment and the 151st N.Y. are united as a church and a band of Christian brothers. I think there have been 250 from our Regiment that have experienced religion since first we went into winter quarters. Glory be to God and still the good work goes on, and God continues to bless us.
Many have also enlisted under the Great Captain Jesus from various Regiments / O God continue to work in our midst that we may be an Army of Christians that when deaths cold hand shall lay us low, we may march to the upper and better world. It seems that the Lord is stirring up the dry bones throughout the Army. it is not in our Division alone, but in other Divisions and in other Corps. Let us praise His Holy Name for He is doing a great work in our midst. let us pray for the dear souls that are yet travelling the downward road to ruin, that they may see the danger and flee the wrath of God. The Lord is willing to save if they will but ask Him. / Jesus ever stands ready with outstretched arms to receive them. why do they hesitate Tis Sweet to Trust in Him in Faith believing. let what may come He ever stands ready to receive us into His Kingdom
Tis Religion that can give
in the Light, in the Light
Sweetest pleasures while we live
in the Light of God.
What a heavenly comfort to you my Dear Mother to have the assurance that if your Albert dies upon the field of Battle God will receive his spirit and that when your spirit shall take its flight from earth, from the many trials / and adversities of this life we may be again united in Heaven where parting is no more. O blessed thought. May God help us to live faithful Soldiers of Christ. Let us live nearer to Him with our lamps neatly trimmed and brightly burning. May God bless you Dear Mother and Father. talk to him Mother, he needs the love of that Blessed Savior and may God help you. He will help you. God will hear and answer prayer. let us not grow weary in well doing, but continue to press our way onward and upward and at last we will surely meet our reward in Heaven. God will give us strength to do our duty faithfully & manfully. let us / look to Him alone, for in Him is abundance of riches.
O for a thousand tongues to sing my Great Redeemers Praise.
and now after saying a few more words this evening I will close my letter.
We are expecting to move every day and I may say expect to any hour. there is nothing at present transpiring of any account. write soon. I dont know when the mail will stop going but I will write until it does. give my kindest wishes to enquiring friends & neighbors & love to you & John.
May God ever bless you & at last love you in Heaven.
Your only Son & Bro in Christ
Yours
Albert
