Dear Mother
As I have a few moments to myself I will scratch you a few lines to inform you that I have been spared to again trace you a few lines. it is but four days ago that I last wrote you, but as there has been another Battle I thought I would relieve you from all anxiety on my account. I received your kind & motherly letter dated the 25th of May this morning, and was very happy to hear from you.
I am very sorry that / you worry so much but I know you cannot help feeling some anxiety for me. still I dont want you should believe these flying reports. you said it was reported that Capt Allstrom was killed. that is not true he is alive & well. I saw him this morning Lt Wil. Conover has been in command of the Company until last Thursday, the day of the hard Battle. he was wounded. there were fourteen wounded in Co. G. none killed. There was one killed the day before. I will not take time to give you a list of the wounded as / they will be in print perhaps before this shall reach you. But keep good courage Dear Mother & dont worry so much for my safety, for a greater part of the time I am in the rear where the bullets cannot reach me.
Let us trust wholly in the Lord for He is good and doeth all things well. He is as able to save on the Field of Battle as in time of Peace. There is a time for all things Dear Mother, and these things must needs be to fulfill the Holy Scriptures. it is hard 'tis true, but let us bear it / like the old Christian marytrs of days that are far back in the past. God gave His only Son Jesus to die for us. let us look upon that bleeding Lamb on Calvary, how he suffered, bled & died for us. There were but few to sympathize with Him. our days are short on this earth and full of sorrow, but let us ever keep in mind that blessed abode in Heaven.
There will be no more sorrow there. May God bless you and all your neighbors, bear me in remembrance to them all & to all my friends.
This Rebellion is nearly worn out. I feel that God will not suffer it to go / on much longer. May God be with us and grant us a glorious & lasting victory over the enemy who have brought this once happy Union to a state of desolation and mourning. May God be with the suffering ones & comfort the broken hearted. we have paid for our wickedness but not enough. O God be merciful to us a Nation / & banish all strife and dissentions, make us one People and may we all serve Thee O God, our Lord & Redeemer. it is getting dark and is raining. I must now close. the God of mercy & love be ever present with you & all my love to you & John
Your only Son Albert
& Bro in Christ.
