My Dear Mother
I will commence early this morning before it gets too warm and write two or three letters, the first to you to inform you that I am by the blessing of God enjoying good health. couldn't wish to feel any better than I feel this nice morning, and I hope this may find you and John & all your neighbors in the enjoyment of good health.
There has been nothing unusual occurred since / last I wrote you. we are now laying on the left of our lines to prevent a flank movement by the Rebels. we have been laying here for three or four days and had quite a quiet time of it, there having been nothing but a little skirmish now & then, during which Eseck was wounded in his right thumb, but he is all right. I saw him day before yesterday. he sent his love to all who might chance to enquire. he is the only one that has been wounded lately. Aaron Polliemer is missing. the supposition is that he was taken prisoner during the skirmish.
There was heavy / fighting on the right last night and they are pecking away right smart this morning. it is probable we will remain here for ten days or more.
The weather is excessively hot and it is very dusty. I have been hoping for rain, but no rain comes. This seems a very healthy section of country. the water isn't very plentiful but it is good water. we find ice houses very frequently.
every house we see in this part of the country is deserted. Furniture, bedding, and all the household goods are left behind for the accommodation of the Union sogers, ha, ha. and they make good use of them to, I assure you. There is a house near our Train a splendid house, and furniture all left in it, a piano included. I dont know whether I can write another letter or not this morning. I am expecting a letter from you. I expect if you are able today you are preparing for Church. I should like to attend. well Mother I believe I cannot write any more this time. write soon. My love to you & John and bear me in remembrance to my enquiring friends.
& I ever remain Your Dutiful
Albert
May Heavens richest blessing be bestowed upon you
