Albert C. Harrison to Cornelia Harrison and John Lloyd, 9 September 1864
Camp Near City Point, Va.
Sept 9th 1864.

My Dear Mother & Father
I will drop you a few lines this evening to inform you that I have been lucky enough to receive two letters from you dated the 19th of July & the 9th of Augst although they were rather old I can assure you I soon devoured them of their contents. / I didn't get one quarter of my old mail, and never expect to, for it is in all probability lost, but never mind it all goes in eleven months.

We still lay here as usual, having had nothing to do in over a week as it has been very quiet at the front.

I guess they must intend keeping us here as a Reserve Train. I am very well suited and would be better satisfied if we could get our six months pay. But it will be two months before we will get it I guess / and we will have a round little sum coming to us. I have $114. due me now.

The weather has become quite cold and there will be frost soon. This is the most sickly month we will have but it is very healthy thus far. are there any volunteering from around Red Bank. I see in some parts of the State the quotas are already filled by volunteers, that is what I like to see, as well as all of the Boys down here. it has very quiet today with the exception of a little / artillery firing.

I received a letter from Aunt Clemmy. she stated that they were well & that Henry O. had received a letter from Gedney and says he will be glad when his time expires for he is tired of it. we are all tired as far as that is concerned but here's one that will never give up the ship Union, so long as a star remains on the old Banner. Down with the traitors. May God bless you all. My best respects to friends &
I remain your loving Son
Albert.
