My Dear Mother & Father
It is a beautiful moonlight evening and too nice to go to bed so I shall endeavor to pass away an hour or so in writing if I can manage to think of anything, but its a tough matter of late for me to compose any kind of a decent letter, as there is no news and nothing transpiring worthy of mention. still what little I have to say will perhaps be eagerly / read by you as you are always anxious to hear from me, as I am to hear from you, but I do not seem to be gratified with a letter very often from any one. I have received none since I received those two of a late date, which two I made mention of in my former letter. so you see they are not very particular at Washington if they see the 6th Corps mark upon it, before they notice the City Point, they send it to the Corps. But if you are only in good health as / I earnestly hope & pray all is well. still you know it is more satisfaction to be certain. Still I am a very poor hand to worry or cry over spilt milk. I have forgotten what sort of a face to make if I wanted to cry, so you see I couldn't if I wanted to.

All is quiet as Quaker meeting at the front. yesterday they had a terrible heavy artillery duel of which I have heard no particulars

We are every day anticipating a general / engagement to take place. Reinforcements are constantly pouring into the Army here. I heard old Lee said he was going to annihilate Grants Army inside of two weeks. But if I mistake not, it would look far better to turn the thing around the other way. I could better believe it then. I am enjoying the best of health thanking our Heavenly Father for the same & with a prayer for your welfare & safety

            I remain Your loving Son
Albert C
