Albert C. Harrison to Cornelia Harrison and John Lloyd, 20 September 1864
Camp Near City Point, Va.
Sept 20th 1864.
Dear Mother & Father
I am most happy to inform you that your most kind & welcome letter of Sept 6th came to hand last evening. it is true it was rather a long time reaching me, still I was very glad to hear you were in good health when that left you, and hope most earnestly this may find you as well as it leaves me.
All is as quiet this morn as if there was no such thing as there being two contending Armies in the front of Petersburg our lines are being extended left almost daily as new troops pour in & swell the ranks. the left of the line is said to be forty mile distant.
There is more or less fighting / every night or sharp skirmishing would be a better phrase to term it, for a skirmish on this campain used to be considered a heavy Battle. I had a letter from Sergt Foster a short time since he is still safe & in good health. he says the company begins to look a little like itself again, as a great many of the slightly wounded are coming in every few days. There is no signs of our going away. we are having very easy times of it now. We hav'nt been at the front in some time, but I think we will have our hands full in the course of a few days
I must now close. My love to you & Grandma tell her only 11 months more. Write soon & God bless you all Your loving Son, Albert
