Your Son Albert
Washington D.C.
Sunday Dec. 4th 1864
Dear Mother
I wrote you a letter night before last then I was in the Shenandoah Valley near Winchester & now I am in Washington. I had no opportunity of mailing my letter so I thought I would enclose a few more lines to inform you that our Corps is again on the move & that your dear letter was received. I am so sorry that John gets no better and it is in just the time I cannot possibly gain a furlough. I have / tried for one three times but its no use while we are on the move The Chaplain has been good to me, he has tried his best for me, but of no avail. We arrived in Washington this morning & it is the Sabbath or I should go to Genl Halleck. I can only pray for you. The Chaplain pray for you & Father that he may recover. I dont know where they are going to send us. the most of the troops are on board transports. I will write again the first port we land God bless you & John may the Lord spare his life. I hope you can read this
