Albert C. Harrison to Cornelia Harrison and John Lloyd, 6 December 1864
Camp Near City Point, Va.
Dec 6th 1864.

Dear Mother & Father.
I stated in my last that I would write you as soon as we arrived in port, so as the opportunity offers this afternoon I will make good my promise by penning a few lines to inform you that we left Washington Sunday afternoon and yesterday morning found us at City Point again. It was the least of my thoughts that we would come back here. the Corps have not all arrived yet. The Second Division is still to come. the 1st & 3rd have gone to the front to / the left of Petersburg. it is said they relieve the Fifth Corps

We are waiting back here to get our Train. we will probably get it tomorrow morning. as soon as we receive it, I am going to make applications again for a furlough. The Chaplain told me he would have my papers made out and ready for me by the time I called for them. I hear that they have stopped granting any furloughs for the present, but it dont make any difference I will try it again & stick to the old rule, if at first you dont succeed, try, try again.

I hope John has recovered 'ere this, May the Lord bless / him. I hope you may have received the money before this time for I expect you must be in need of it. if you hav'nt received it and need any money, take that out of the bank. I will try & get home some time this winter if I do not succeed this time. But I hope I may. Still I am used to disappointments. Has Clemmy gone home yet. I hope some one is with you. I am glad you are able to be around for I feared you would also be down sick. I do hope John is better. I know there must have been a change before this & I hope for the best. God grant it for your sake / dear Mother. The Lord is good. I feel to thank him for the preservation of our lives thus far. I have passed through many dangers which, to look back to, seem impossibilities. But nothing is impossible with our Heavenly Father. Let us love Him more & serve Him better. I will now close everything is the same here as when we left. May the Lord preserve you & bless you & allow us the privilege of meeting once again on earth.

Remember me to the neighbors & friends & receive the Love & sympathy of Your Son Albert & his many comrades.
