My Dear Friends
Yours of Dec 27 came to hand day before yesterday and I was right glad to hear from you again. I was writing a letter to cousin Sarah at the time & wanted to say that you were going to send some things by cousin James I told her to tell James not to bring any thing & that I had told you the reason in a former letter. I dont remmember as I stated any particular reason but I said that the Dr was going to send me North as soon as I could go. my foot is getting some better I walked a little with my crutches to day for the first time. I could not / go very far as it pained me very much to hold my foot down. yet I am very anxious to get so I can get about handy. I think if the Doctor sends me back I will sell my boots as I cannot wear but one and it would be hard work to take care of the other. I think or rather I know I can get from 15 to 20 dollars for them. my socks are just what I wanted. good many have said that they wished they had a pair like them.

I believe that I wrote you that I had received the suspenders that was the last mail matter that I have received from you except this letter of the 27 I was quite surprised to hear of the sudden deaths there it must be a great loss to both / Mrs Johnson & Mrs Ballard.

I have not written to George for over a year. I believe I do not know where to direct a letter to if I did I would write to him.

I wish he would write to me. I should like so much to hear from him. I heard that Capt. Conkey was home again recruiting for regiment. I hope Uncle has not bought any paper or envelops for me for if I had some down here now I could do nothing with it it would be more of a bother than any thing else. Oh that my foot wasent hurt. I would rather do duty six months rather than lay in a Hospital helpless or sick one month or one week. it is so tiresome & so lonesome.

Last Sunday Mr Benson came down to see us he gave / us some papers which we were glad to receive dont send me anything more whether by anyone or in a package of papers for I may be sent north any day.

direct all of your letters here untill I give you different directions. all of my mail will go to the regt & they will send it to me.

The weather has been very cold here for the last week. last night it turned off cold enough so that it snowed enough to make the ground look white that is getting to be prety cold down in this region of the confederacy.

It is prety cold this evening. my foot pains me continually. I am afraid I did too much in trying to use my crutches. I hope not for I would not take cold in it for the world. I am afraid I would lose my foot or the use of it entirely. dont be alarmed but what I will be carefull of it I shall not be so hasty again but I must close as it is getting dark. write me often as you can conveniently

Yours as ever Frank
