My Dear Friend.
Having nothing very special to do just now I thought Iwould set down and write you a few lines asking how you are getting along. When I wrote my last I was very busy in making out Ordnance returns to Washington and could not then pay very much attention to my letters, but since then I have thought of it and have become quite anxious to learn how Uncle was getting along Aunt wished me to try and come home but under the circumstances then I could not apply for a leave of absence, but now I have every thing finished and / at liberty to try and get a leave of absence, if I have a good reason to back the application. Now I would like to make a visit up north this winter, and if there was some very pressing buisness which needs my personal attention let me know and I will try. If Uncle is sick, why I want to come anyway. I feel as if I must come. I am now not responsible to the Government for a single thing, haveing turned over every thing that I ever was responsible for, so you see I have nothing to hold me.
If I should put in an application for a leave of absence and it sho the Col. would not approve it I would tender him my resignation so he might either / let me go for a short time or go altogether. I have no fears though. I dont care about remaining in the service any longer. I have thought of resigning good many times My ankle is getting so much worse than it was while I was home last that I am getting about discouraged. The Drs all think here that there is a small piece of bone that will have to come out. I think that it is either that or some disease has got in it that needs better care to cure it than I can get here in the Army. I have thought some time of trying to get into the "Veteran Reserve Corps" but I guess that is about used up. I hear every day that / they are not examining Officers for that Corps but I guess that they are but not any where in the army. they have regular stations for doing that buisness but I dont care about going in to that Corps yet. I think that if there is any good buisness that I could go with after coming home I had better do that. I wish Uncle could give me his opinion on these matters—if he is sick let me know and I will try and come home. I want to come any way but I will not seal this tonight for the mail may come in and I am looking for a letter and my diary from you.
We are haveing some prety cold weather just now. I have been getting me some clothes and fixing up for cold weather.
But I must close. excuse the hast this was written in and answer as soon as recd
Yours truly
Frank
