Louise Simon to Henry Simon, August 1864
Providence R I Aug.

Dear Father
Maggie tells me she has been writeing to you. So I surpose she has told you all there is to tell and left nothing for poor me to say. I surpose you like it much better where you are now then you did at the Island it said in the paper that you were at Fort Parapet some way below New-Orleans when you answer this tell me all about it, that is the Fort the climate and every thing else that you think will interest me and something that I can learn from I wrote to you some time ago but have received no answer so I surpose you did not get it and must write again hopeing this to be more successful Liny left us for New-York last satuerday. I surpose she will have a very pleasant time and only wish I were with her but it can not be at present so I must wait paiciently until my turn / comes I have alway had a great desire to see New York and next winter if the money can be spared Lizzie and I want to go on to Enretta's wedding go late in the winter so that when I return I shall be all ready for the spring season let me tell you about my Millinery I made Miss Elizabeth Simon her summer bonnet and it is called very pretty it is white lace trimed with blue ribben brough up strait on the one side of the bonnet over to the rim and made into a small rosette it is very plane and neat so her Ladyship was very much pleased with it I surpose you think I have said a good deal considering the Millener my-self. all of the Family are well except Frank as usual he is not very well in body but in mind I at least think him much better than when you went away he tries to speak a great deal more than he did. the other night he commenced to laugh and such a laugh as it was worth hearing it was a real healthy sensible laugh he made the noise of a / pig and then he would laugh at it I can tell you Father that I never was so pleased in my life as when I heard him. I think if he is spared us he will yet be all we could wish for his sake I would I could know the future.

Robert is well and smart as ever he is a second Ernest George is a beauty he is the prettyest boy I ever saw there is no need of my telling you that he is smart for you already know it Carrie is now nearly three years old and is well, all the rest are well Lizzie and Delly will write to you sunday I will write to Ernest the same day if possible I surpose you will not think me improving much but dont judge me this time Father I know this is not written very nice but I must hurry and dress or it can not go to day I send a paper with this letter or at the same time and also the names of the killed and wounded in the Fourth Regiment there are several of your old Company wounded and some killed you can see by the list for your self excuse / me for not writeing this better but I am in a hurry as I said before you will see a great many mistake in this but I know you would reather have this then none at all my love to Ernest and make him write home oftener good by your affectionate Daughter
