Dear Mother I now take my pen in hand to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope to find you the same I am in Lowell but we dont know when we shall leave here I like to be a soldier first rate and am not any home sick we have some fine times here there is two thousand in camp here I have been sick since I have been here but I have got well now I was very sory that I could not go home when I was not able to go out home when I was in Camp buttler I should like to see anna and Eliza / first rate give my love to them and all the rest of the folk tell henry Tarbox that he missed it when he went home he had better gone with us I should like to see all of the boys down there I want you to tell jiles hodgdon that I should like to see him very much I want you to be shure and write to me as soon as you get this
