Lucretia Brown (maiden name: Simpson) was born around 1809 in Hollis, Maine, to Thomas Simpson. She married Samuel Brown on April 14, 1835, and they had at least seven children: Mary, born around 1836; Jane, born around 1839; James, born around 1841; John, born around 1843; Sarah, born around 1845; Anna, born around 1847; and Eliza, born around 1851. They lived in Hollis, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1850, they owned $700 of real estate. Her husband died in 1853.
Her son John served in the Union army, and he died on November 13, 1863. She applied for a mother’s pension in July 1865 and eventually secured one. By 1870, she owned $300 of real estate and $250 of personal property. She died of consumption in Hollis on March 19, 1896.
