My Dear Mother
it is with the gratest of pleasure for me to set down to day for to inform you of my health which is very good at present and I hope that these few lines will find you all enjoying good health and taking all the tempest of life &c. But I receive a letter from you the other day and was very glad to here from you But I ant had time to answer it a tall and it was dated May 26 and I got one to day from you and it was dated June 9 and I was very proud of it But we have lay under the enemy guns for 24 days and I have seen a number of Boys shot dead / But my life is spare up to this present time But if the hand of provedence smile on ous I am in hope that it will you tell James that I wish that I was at home to help him farm it this summer if I could you tell Eliza I should like to see her very much But I dont expect to till my time is out But I must come to a close for this time I got 2 postage stamps and 1 steel pen and I was very glad of it
