My Dear mother I thought that I wood write a few lines to you for to let you know that I had not forgot you yet for I think it is with grate pleasure for me to sit down to day for to try to scrabble of a few lines to you But I feell a shame to think that I had not wroten to you before this time to you. But do remember me Mothr in you prays But I am contented as hell at present and I hope that these few lines will find you all enjoying the same blessing
 
I receive your letter in Lowell Mass / We went to Boston the 13 day of this month and lay in Boston 8 days then we started for the South and was 3½ days in going to fortress Monroe But now we lay in Virginia on the shore But we can see the Rebbels all in sight of ous But things look verry well here But the cold weather ant very cold here it is about as cold as April down in Maine I feell well at present Give my love to All Good Boys in New field Hollis 
 
But I think that we shall be home in the spring if nothing happens to ous
