Dear Mother
I got a letter from you yesterday wrote July 28th I was verry glad to hear from you and to hear that you all were well. My health is good and has been all the time since I wrote to you last. The health of this Reg't is better than it was a month ago. The wether is warm but the nights are growing colder and I hope that the days will before long. Gen Shepley and Elder Colby our Chaplain arrived yesterday I was glad that you sent those needles and thread for I was all out of them. I was also glad to get the 6 postage stamps you sent me. We have not been paid off yet and I dont think we shall till the first of September then we shall get 4 months pay. Gen Butler has taken the arms away from all the people here. They had a lot of them. I suppose that when you get this letter it will begin to seem like fall in maine but it will not here for it will be verry warm for some time. We have got / good quarters and get enough to eat. We have got a first rate Colnel he looks out for his men and sees that they fare well. I cant think of anny thing more to write at present so good by.
From your Son
