Dear Mother I resived your letter last nite dated Sept. 7th and was very glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well I am in good helth and I hope that this will find you the same I was very glad to see that thread we moved from the cotton press yesterday and come hear it is about ten miles from New Orleans a very nice plase to live. it is quiet and cool the good news from the North revives me very mutch I will tel you the Cornels name it is William H. Kimbal a very nice man thare is good news in the papers from the north to day but you have heard it befor this so I will not write any thing about it
Thare is a garden hear that is one of the most beautiful sites that I ever saw it is free for the soldiers to go in when they pleas thare is all kinds of flowers and all kinds of beasts and birds that is in amerca from a bear to a cat. fish, allegators, snakes and etc we have plenty of good watter hear that is somthing new for us. I like this plase the best of aney one that I have ever ben in yet and feel the best contented hear that I have since I left home I would be glad to see you all but I do not expect to until this inglorous incerrection is over and then if it is the Lords will that I should I will return home to thoes that I love it will be a happy day to me if I live to see that time /
