Paul Chadbourn to Darling H. Chadbourn, 13 December 1859
Boston December 13th 1859

Dear Brother;
            Feeling in a writing mood I will improve the remaining moments of this eve in writing to you & Sis, for I truly believe you are not a going to write to me again. Well I am in fine health & spirits. I understand you are getting so fat you are uncomfortable. I realy hope farming will agree with you and you with farming and that success will crown your efforts. How does Lizzie like farming? How I would like to drop in and see you some eve and have a farmer's chat. Have you got any snow with you yet? Do you have any skating out there? We have had but little snow in Boston yet, and are just having skating. every girl I think is going skating here and I expect to be among them some, for I expect to stop here this winter, for Joseph is going down home with Father & Mother who are quite lonly

            I received a letter from home a day or two ago which said Father was no better but seemed to be growing weaker I greatly fear we shall not have our dear Father with us long, but I hope we shall do all we can to comfort him while he does remain. But I am pleased to learn they have sold a lot of timber and I hope that that will relieve him from some embaressment

            Joseph will go the last of this week and I think he will receive a hearty welcome but he does not want to stay there all winter but I think he will. I shall send a bbl flour when he goes and I think they will be quite well prepaired for a winter &c. Business has been very good here this fall but begins to decline.

            Flour & grain has been very high here and is now. if you had a cargo of corn here you might make a spec. We had our city election here yesterday which resulted in a republican victory.

            I continue to like here very much yet am getting acquainted with very many people and have some good times I assure you but what ads very much to my enjoyment is the reception of letters from friends at home and abroad, and I hope you will not be slow to contribute to my enjoyment in this respect.

            Please write immediately on the reception of this and write a good long letter and tell me all about how you are getting along and what your prospects are &c. and you will greatly oblige your

Your affectionate Brother
Paul
