Collins M. Chadbourn to Paul Chadbourn, 24 September 1862
Fairfax Seminary, Sept 24th/'62
Dear Brother
I did not receive your letter untill to-day and I was somewhat supprised to learn you are sick with a fevor. When I saw you that night that they were carrying me to the Hospital I did not think you was going to be sick so soon but alas! how little do we know of the future.
I am getting quite smart I should soon regain my usual strength if I had any thing to eat. If they don't give me any thing but bread & tea / to eat I reckon I shall have weak knees for some days to come. I am feeling first rate only my knees will bend one way as well as an other I am hungry all of the time. I am having comfortable quarters & can put up with the treatment received. I go out every pleasant day & take a short walk. If I had a horse I would ride to the city to see you. I know not why they should bring me here to this place.
I wrote to Darling yesterday & have written two letters to-day.
Hope you will be able to get out in a few days. /
Take good care of your self & if you want a nurce I will come up and take care of you. I will write no more this time for I am getting tired.
Write as soon as you are able & if you are not able to write get Mr Wiggin to write for you for I shall want to hear from you.
Respectfully yours
Collins M. Chadbourn
P. S. Please give my respects
to Mr Wiggin.
