Dear Brother;
Yours of the 13th is just received and I hasten to reply. I am right smart and intended to go to the Regmt tomorrow but the Dr says don't hurry; and as he gave me good advise when I could not help myself I think I ought to hear to him now; so I shan't go for a day or two longer.
I got a little cold some how and it settled on my right lung and it is a little sore now, but much better than it was /
I went over to see Collins last Tuesday and came back via Georgetown which made a long ride; like to killed Wiggins. He hasn't want to ride much since. I stood it well. Found Collins doing first rate, but very lonely. I have bought no horse yet going to look at one tomorrow
I heard from the Regmt last night, all fairly well. got my money from my trunk &c. The Quartermaster is up there. Mr Sweyse lost a son down down in Kentucky died with a fever. Mrs Sweyze fell down stairs and is very lame. Miss Depue rocks about as much as ever. We had a nice rain here last Saturday. I attended church Sunday. /
I was much pleased to hear you found Lizzie and the boy so well and also to hear the rest of the family was well. I am glad you have sold a yoke of steers though I don't know whether it was mine or not. I hope if you buy another yoke you will buy a likely yoke of two year olds, and none unless they are likely.
I wonder if the girls got my long letter and if they mean to be a long time answering? That little girl opposite sent me a bouquet and I wrote some verses on the reception of it, great excitement the consequence. Write soon and direct to Regmt.
Good Night
Your Brother Paul
