Dear Brother—
Agreeable to my promis I now write to inform you of my safe arrival here and of my present good health. I had a big boil on my neck all the way on but it is most well now but I have not reported for duty yet and don't think to for some days /

I found the regt in fine condition and appeared to be glad to see me. I have been mustered as Major and so am all right for the present.

The weather here is very cold and stormy but the men have good quarters and are very comfortable indeed when in camp but when they have to go on picket it is some tough.

There has been much firing along the line today but what it means I don't know Many deserters are constantly coming in to our lines and say they are sick of war /

Tell Lizzie Dimond is well and looks finely—I hope to hear from you soon—hope you are all well &c.

In haste
Your Brother
Paul Chadbourne
