Dear Friends,
I rec'd your letter of the 23rd, the 18th of this month, and was glad to hear from you once more, and that you were all well, and now I will write a few lines to let you know that we are all well, and hope that these few lines will find you the same. the reason that I did not write sooner was because I wrote you a letter the day before I rec'd yours, and I rec'd one from Wm. harris the same time, and I answered his the next day, and I thought that I would wait a few days and see what turned up new, / And something has turned up new, for we had some new recruits come down with Major kilbourne when he came down here, and dont you believe that John fletcher came down with them. he is the same old john yet. Milan D. Wilson says that you must go to the man on his place for them oats. well, he has written a line to you. he has written to his wife about them. I suppose that fowler has written all the news. I rec'd a letter from home this week thursday. they were all well at home. david wrote the letter. he said that they had the prettiest little schoolmarm there ever was. / She let them do just as they were a mind to. he wrote that the tinkers wife had got a baby. I suppose that you know who the tinker is. J. W. Chase is his name. well now about them girls, I think that if I was up there a few days I could take care of them, but that is one of the impossibilities just now, so I shall have to send my respects to them, and you must tell them to take good care of themselves until we come back from war, for then we shall want some good women. them pants and hat were jim nabals, that were in my satchel. / he is here with us now. he looks pretty slim yet, but he is getting along now. we have not got a sick man in our Company now. this is a very healthy place down here. we have fresh beef very often. our boys goes out and kills a beef once in awhile. some of them have gone out to day. well I guess that I have wrote enough this time. direct as before, port royal, SC. Col welsh's 45 regt, Com I. PaV.

I remain as ever,
Wm Chase,
to Mary Kennedy.
