Kind friends,
having a little time to spare, I thought that I would write you a few lines once more, to let you know that I am well and hope that this will find you the same. it is now two weeks to day since I wrote to you before, and I have not had a letter from you in more than two weeks, but I shall keep on writing every chance I get. I am now where can see the secesh every day. I am out on picket duty. we are within about one mile and a half of them. we can see them every day. day before yesterday me and fowler and lon borden went over on bull Island hunting and I shot a three year old steer. I tell you it is some good. the cattle are very fat, and plenty of them, but they are build / as ever any deer was, but I got a good shot at one and I put the ball and three buck shot right into his fore shoulder. he made a half dozen jumps through the brush and down he fell, and was dead when I got where he was. Well, we have got some money once more. we got two months pay yesterday (Sunday) and we expect two months more pay next week. I will send you some money this time. well it begins to rain and the wind blows very hard, so I must stop until tomorrow.
Same day, two oclock PM. well, I thou't that I would try and finish this. when I stopped writing on this I wrote one to put in one of fowlers, to send to his folks. he has put a five dollar bill in it. I have sent you 30 dollars. there is a big pile of money coming up there I see about 600 dollars to day. that is coming to Wellsboro. the pay master is going to give a check on the / treasurer in New York, and that check will be sent to Henry Sherwood, and he will draw the money and see that the men gets it that it was sent to. there will be a list of the names sent, and they will be published in the Agitator, and when we get our pay again I will send you some more.
