Newport News, Va. July 28 1862
Well here I am again scratching off a few lines for you to read if you can. yours of the 20th I recd yesterday with two others. there must be one or two letters now on the way that you have not recd yet. I wrote you a letter about four days ago, but as I was writing to Aunt Betsey, I thought that I would write a few lines to you.
M. D. Wilson says that he will write when you find out what kind of folks them are that live on his place and he has got the belly ache now so he dont write. the regt that John was in came here last week. I went down to see them but the Com that he was in was not there. they were left at Hatteras, but they are coming up here soon. /
you must not talk about anybodys coming home on a visit, for anybody that is able to do duty cannot leave the Army and then again I have got now where I cant very well leave. there is another Corporal gone out of our Company to recruit, Decater Dickinson, by name.
Well it is most time for afternoon drill, and I will have to close. my love to all, write soon. this from your Brother, Wm Chase.
