Dear Brother, and Sister.
Again I find myself seated at the table for the purpose of writing you a few lines once more, in answer to your kind letter of the 31st ult. which I recd last night. there are several men here by the name of Chase, one by the name of Wm H. Chase. when you write again, please direct to Lieut Wm Chase. there were two letters of mine taken to another ward and kept two or three days. so if you will put the handle to my name, they wont make any mistake. I have just recd a letter from David, wrote the 6th. the folks were all well except Nancy (and as dave says) she is as helpless as you please with the rheumatism. Wallace has went to Williamsport and is there to work in a sawmill / yesterday it snowed here all day long and was pretty cold to. to day it melts a little but is cloudy and will freeze to night pretty hard. I feel sorry for the poor soldiers that are out on the field through this cold storm, but the secesh will suffer more than our men will this winter. we are waiting here very patiently for the pay master. we heard here to day that he would be here next week. there was 100 men sent from here this week to little York Penna and the Hospital has been all filled up again. there is now about 400 here, sick and wounded. the wounded are all getting along very well. my wound is all healed up entirely there are a good many here that are crippled for life. some with one arm off, and some with a ball through the elbow that makes their arm stiff. there are a good many sick with the fever. I had a letter from Daniel this week. he and the other boys were well. they were on the march in Virginia. / John Inman has got to be 3rd Sergt in his Company. I have not heard from my Company since I wrote to you before. I recd a letter from Esther Covell the same time that I did your last. they were all well on the Creek.

Well, it is most supper time and I must close. please write soon. you did not say anything about aunt Betsey nor Uncle Noble in your letter. I send my love to all friends.

I remain as ever your Brother
Wm Chase.
