Paris, Kentucky. March 30th 1863.

Dear Sister & Brother,
Once more I find myself seated for the purpose of writing you a few lines to let you know where we are now. one week ago yesterday, Sunday, we started from Newport News, Va. we took the steamboat to Baltimore and then took the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad to Parkersburg, Va. on the Ohio River, and there we took a steamboat down the Ohio River to Cincinnati. there we crossed the river to Covington in Kentucky, and then on Saturday we took the Railroad from Covington for this place, where we arrived just at night. this is the nicest country that I ever saw. we are on the Licking River about 80 miles from the Ohio River at Covington. this is a place of about 2500 inhabitants / and there is lots of Kentucky girls here, but you need'nt tell anybody. I haint been into the village yet. I saw some of them when we come through on the cars. we stopped on the bridge just in the edge of the town and there were four girls stood in the door of one house, and I took an old letter out of my pocket and threw down the envellope to let them know what Regt we were, and one of the girls picked it up and read it and then put it in her pocket and went into the house.

so I will have to close. when I get time I will write all the news. direct to Paris, Bourbon County, Kentucky.

so no more from your Brother
Lieut Wm Chase.
