Milldale, Miss
July 28th 1863.

Dear Brother and Sister,
Once more I seat myself for the purpose of writing you a few lines, to let you know that I am well, as usual, and hope the few lines will find you the same. yours of the 14th I recd last night, and was very glad to hear from you again and that you were all well. Since I wrote to you before from Jackson after the Rebs skedaddled from the city we went out on the Memphis and Jackson Railroad and worked on the Railroad two days (tearing up and burning the track.) then we come back to Jackson again and from there we had orders to come back to the river to take transportation for the north again / so we have got back here to the river again, and now we are waiting for transports. I think that we will come back into Kentucky again and I will be very glad when we get out of this hot hole where we can get good water to use, and where the bugs and mosquitoes wont eat us up nights.

Fowler is here as well and as ugly as ever. he is driving Ambulance yet. he says if his folks want to hear from him they must write to him. he says that he has got tired of writing when he cant get an answer from them. so he has  quit writing. tell Aunt Achsah not to be uneasy about him, for he knows enough to take care of himself.

                        E. B. Carvey is getting along very fast and so are all the wounded. we have quite a number of sick in the Regt, but they are all doing / very well. a good many have had the fever an ague, but the doctors have a plenty of quinine.

My 2nd Lieut is sick. his throat is swelled up. the doctors say that it is the quinsy.

I had a letter from South Creek last week, the folks were all well then. Dave did not say anything about dan at all. And I had a letter from Mary Hurlbut last week too. they were all well out there when she wrote.

well, I think that I will close for I want to write some to Margaret with this. Please write soon. My love to all. I remain as ever your Brother, Capt Wm Chase
Co I, 45th Pa. Vols. 1st Brig. 1st Divis. 9th Army Corps. via of Cinn. Ohio.
