David Chase to Mary Kennedy, 4 August 1863
Elmira Ny.
August 4th/63
Dear Sister
I recd yours of the 30th ult to day and was glad to hear from you once more. I am well at present and hope this will find you the same I am still in Elmira and fair prospect of staying here some time to come.
You did not say when you was coming out home when you come you must come up and see me if I am still here.
I have not heard from Wallace since I left home and if you have let me know in your next Tell George I am glad he was not drafted and / hope that he will not be. I have not got much to write about this time and only a pencil to write with for I lost my pen last night. I do not know whether I will have a chance to go home again or not before I leave here for the Colonel in command of this post is an old tyrant. you must write when you can. I shall have to stop now so good by all of you.
David
