Dear Sister Mary
Have you given up hearing from me, if so I will disappoint you by writing a few lines. I am doing quite well now have been here only two days and would not have come but the Regt was going away and I was not able to ride any great distance and so I was obliged to come.
This is a pleasant place and the patients are well taken care of everything is clean and neat plenty of reading matter and above all plenty of to eat so I think that I am in no danger as long as everything / continues as it is at present
I have not received any letters from home since the 20th of last February and I am somewhat impatient to hear from there or somewhere else.
I suppose that you know that Father has been here (or to Harpers Ferry rather) to see me but I was out amongst the Greybacks so he did not see me for he could not come where I was.
Cousin John is in Richmond a prisoner he was taken on the 20th of Feb last the same day that I was wounded.
Mary you must write all the news and everything else that you can think of that / will be interesting to a Soldier Boy that is away from camp and no prospect of having a "spy at the Butternuts" in a long time, if ever again.
I have learned heard since I came here that the Reg't is on its way to "Old Kentuck" but I do not know if it is true or not.
You must excuse a short letter this time for it is getting so dark that I can scarcely see
Love to all the Friends
and a good share to you and Family
