Dear Sister,
Mary, I have just rec'd yours and Margarets letter, dated Aug 21st, mailed at Wellsboro 24th. I hasten to answer, so it will go out on the afternoon train. yours found me well as usual. My arm will be lame for a long time yet. I cant see what you all want me to get out of the army for. What will I do for a living now I am crippled. Will my friends support me for nothing, I cant go / into the woods and use an axe as I used to. that is the reason I want to stay in the service a while longer, but I cant tell what will be done with me here. I have been laying here now almost two months, expecting to be able to go to the front, but I am but very little better now than I was when I came here. my wound has not healed up yet.

George Merrick, the Major of the 187th Pa vols. left here last week for Wellsboro. he has a leg off.

There is a Lieut here from the same Company that Daniel is in. he left the Co about the time Dan / wrote to you he says Dan was well when he left.

I heard from home, that John Inman was down in Georgia. he was well at last accounts. there was a boat load of paroled prisoners come in here this week from Richmond, 400 and upwards the most of them look as though they had been poorly stayed with while in Dixie. All of them are sick and wounded.

As it is about dinner time I will close this and write a few lines to Margaret. hoping to hear from you soon, I remain as ever your Brother,

Capt Wm Chase.
