Dear Sister,
Mary, after waiting so long a time to see you out here (and waiting in vain) I will now try to write you a few lines once more, but I expect that you will be out here by the time this gets there, but nevertheless, here goes.
I was up home New years day, the folks were all well, all that were at home. David and Parvin Covell have gone down to Tennessee to work for W. S. this winter. today there was an Order come here for me to go to / the front if I was able to do duty in the field, so I was examined by the Surgeon in charge of the Rebel Hospital and he thought I had not better go to the front untill next spring, and I think by that time, I wont go at all. My wound has just healed up again.
I dont want to go to the front this cold weather, if it was warm weather, I would not care anything about it.
We have not had any sleighing here this winter. the snow is falling tonight, and it looks as though we would have some sleighing tomorrow. I hope we will have some sleighing this / winter, for I want to have one sleigh ride.
I wrote Jane a letter about a month ago and have not heard from her yet, so I have wrote to her again tonight. Well as it is now ten oclock I will have to close, for I am getting sleepy. last night I was out till about eleven. I was at the skating park last night.
hoping to hear from you soon, I remain your
Brother, Capt Wm Chase,
