William Chase to Mary Kennedy, 2 July 1865
Alexandria, Va.
July 2nd 1865.
Dear Sister
Mary, yours of the 25th ult. came to hand in due time but I have not had time to answer until today. (Sunday) Yours found me well, wish I could be up there on the (4th) but cannot. I will have to stay at home alone for everybody else are going home to spend the (4th).
Wallace was here to see me a few days before I rec'd your letter. he expected that they would start for home last week. / if he has not gone home I expect that he will be over here to see me on the (4th). Wall looks pretty thin. he cant stand the soldier's life very well.
I had a letter from Dan since I wrote to you before. he was well when he wrote.
Mary, it is a pity that you cant find a name to correspond with the looks of that wonderful child. I would like to know who she takes after, to get her good looks.
You seem to take it for granted that there will be a nother nice girl. well maybe there will be sometime, but more of that (anon).
well I will have to close for the mail will leave pretty soon.
please write soon,
And all the news.
from your Brother
Wm Chase.
