Dear Sister
I recd your letter some time ago & ought to have ans it before this but have been waiting to get some money to send you, but it is the hardest time to raise any money that I have ever seen here. the banks in this country are not loaning any money to any one, as they have not got it to loan. I have over $100000 that is long past due & I cant get a dollar of it now. Elmer Inman owes me $40000 & he cant pay a dollar now. he went into land speculation a little / to heavy. I traded him the chase house for lots here in town & took his note for the balance & he traded the chase house for land & assumed a quite mortgage on the land & he could not pay the mortgage when due, so he lost all of it beside he paid some money on it so he did not get anything for the house & the chase house was sold for $90000 last summer & the man that owns it cant get that for it now. so you see I got rid of it about the right time if I did not get any money out of it I will get something some time. this country has had a poor crop for 2 years & the farmers are hard up but all crops look good now /

if nothing happens to the crops there will be better times after harvest. I think I will go to colorado this fall & work in the mine we expect to get down to pay ore this winter we are 145 ft now & will go 55 ft more & then drift & cut the ore vein.

enclosed you will find draft for $2000 & I will send you more soon as I will get some in once in a while there is not much work going on now write when you get this & all the news

yours as ever
Geo. Chase
