George Chase was born on March 11, 1849, in Pennsylvania to Joseph and Margaret Chase. His father was a farmer who owned $2,000 of real estate and $600 of personal property by 1860. He grew up and attended school in South Creek, Pennsylvania. By 1870, he was living in his brother Wallace Chase’s household in Ward, Pennsylvania, and he was working in a sawmill.
He eventually moved to Okoboji, Iowa, and he married Martha M. Donaldson on October 7, 1883. They had at least two children: Mary, born around 1885; and Floyd, born around 1888. He worked as a miller. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the early 1900s. His wife died in the 1910s, and by 1920, he was living in Howbert, Colorado. He died sometime after 1933.
