Nancy Chase was born on March 11, 1849, in Pennsylvania to Joseph and Margaret Chase. Her father was a farmer who owned $2,000 of real estate and $600 of personal property by 1860. She grew up and attended school in South Creek, Pennsylvania. She never married, and she remained in her parents’ household until at least 1870. By 1880, she was living with her brother Daniel Chase in South Creek. They lived together until at least 1920. She died of tuberculosis in South Creek on August 9, 1922.
