Maria Elliott
Maria Elliot (maiden name: Harkness) was born on June 5, 1818, in New York to Joel Harkness. She became teaching school in the 1830s. The family lived in Herkimer County, New York, until around 1845, when they moved to Covington, Pennsylvania. She married Oliver Elliott on July 17, 1850, and they had at least two children: Walter, born around 1853; and Judson, born around 1855. Her husband worked as a merchant and shoemaker, and by 1870, they owned $2,000 of real estate and $2,000 of personal property. They lived in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, and her husband died there on April 24, 1891. She lived with her son Judson in Mansfield for the rest of her life, and she died there on November 26, 1895.
