Sophia Leavitt (maiden name: Freeman) was born around 1805 in New York to Rufus Freeman and Phoebe Mason. Her father was a minister. She moved to Ohio by the 1820s, and she married Daniel Leavitt there on September 28, 1828. They had at least eight children: Ellen, born around 1830; Solon, born around 1834; Cyrus, born around 1836; Maria, born around 1838; Cornelia, born around 1840; Panthea, born around 1842; Enoch, born around 1844; and Samuel, born around 1846. They lived in Spencer, Ohio, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1850, they owned $4,000 of real estate. Her husband died around 1851. She moved to North Fairfield, Ohio, in the early 1860s, and she died there in October 1866.
