Daniel B. Keahey was born in September 1838 in North Carolina. He moved to New Salem, Texas, sometime before November 1857. He married Delilah C. Graham on September 29, 1859, and their son Amos was born around 1860. He worked as a farmer, and by 1860, he owned $150 of personal property. His wife probably died in the early 1860s, and he married Sarah E. Bishop on August 9, 1864. They had at least five children: Mary, born around 1865; A.E., born around 1871; Daniel, born around 1877; Frank, born around 1880.
He enlisted in the Confederate army on September 21, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company F of the 7th Texas Cavalry on October 26. The regiment took part in the New Mexico campaign. In June 1863, Confederate officials detailed him to work as a shoemaker. He remained in the army until at least February 1864.
He settled in Rusk, Texas, after the war and resumed his work as a farmer. By 1870, he owned $100 of real estate. He moved to Eastland County, Texas, in the 1870s, and he worked as a saddler there. His wife probably died in the late 1800s, and he remarried around 1895. He died sometime after 1900.
