William A. Bowen
William A. Bowen was born around 1839 in Tennessee to William and Esther Bowen. His father was a farmer who owned $500 of real estate by 1850. The family lived in Dyer County, Tennessee, until the 1850s, when they moved to Hopkins County, Texas. His father died sometime before September 1860. By 1860, he was working as a farm laborer.
 
He enlisted in the Confederate army, and he mustered in as a corporal in Company K of the 9th Texas Cavalry on October 14, 1861. The regiment took part in the Battle of Pea Ridge, the siege of Corinth, and the Second Battle of Corinth. He died at Second Corinth on October 3, 1862.
