Nathan Haile Robbins
Nathan Haile Robbins was born on May 15, 1831, in Brooklyn, Connecticut, to Samuel Robbins and Bethiah Haile. His father was a bookkeeper. By the early 1860s, he was probably living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Union army on October 5, 1861, and mustered in as a 1st lieutenant in Company H of the 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry later that day. He became an adjutant on December 27, 1861, and he spent the next several months in Washington, D.C. He married Barbara Ella Burger there on January 9, 1862, and they had two children: Nathan, born around 1865; and Clarence, born around 1869.

Robbins resigned from the army on October 26, 1862. He reenlisted on December 10, 1862, and mustered in as a sergeant in the 2nd United States Cavalry. He mustered out again on December 10, 1864. He remained in Washington after leaving the army and earned a living as a clerk in the War Department. He died in Washington on October 25, 1876.
