Felterman Va. Feb 1st 1862
           
Dear Brother
I have recieved no answer from you yiet what is the reason has your wife taken all your attention i hope not so please write as often as i do i like to hear from home as wel as you like to hear from me i have no correspondence in that direction except you & so it requires you to write often to keep me wel protect we stil remain in Felterman this place is situated about a mile from Grafton it rains here nearly all the time we have had one clear day since i have been here i have come to the conclusion that Virginia is made of rain the clouds in passing over snags on the mountains & spills all the water out is the reason it rains more here that it does / in other places troops are constantly passing through a regiment & seven batteries passed through yesterday in the eavening a Regiment & 2 – 18 pounders passed through on their way to Romney There is a great deal of sickness in camp as the measles & other complaints oweing to the exposiers which they have been acustomed to they are cut down verry easy as manny 5 die a day from 2 to 5 we have had a great number discharged Six out of our company I have been sick for a couple days past i was taken with the collic i am nearly wel now i wish you would send me five dollars as i am out of money & we have drawed none since i sent that to you i nead some little necessaries & I am afraid we wil have to move from here before we are payed off as there is no money in whealing it has ben a month since we / we should have been payed the government is rather slow i think in such matters we should not have neaded enny money if we had not been moved from the summit on our march we were not with provision so we had to buy them most of the boys were out of money & they fared rather hard do not send it unless you can without discommoding yourself to much please write soon as you recieve this
