Dear Brother
Your letter of the 27th did not find me as wel as you wished for i have been sick a few days past but i am better now so as to write some but my hand is rather unsteady the doctor thinks i wil get along now with out enny trouble at least i hope so it rather a poor place to be sick here the sick are rather on the gain thare are not quite as manny deaths as there ware about 1 every 3 days our hospital by axcident was burned down the other about 4 oclock causing a quite a rumpus but we think it was a benefit to the sick as they have been improving ever since there is only about 270 on the sick list now we are pretty wel reduced we average about 40 able bodied men to the companny & rather hard work to get them out out to do enny thing i have some notion of coming home about the middle of march if i can get a furlough but it wil be rather doubtful if we are ordered into active duty i recieved the pen & 1 dollar bil but i can not get it exchanged until i see the sutler i wil try & get it so as to send it in / the next letter there is not a dollar in the Regiment but what the Officers have & some of them are out it has been a month & a half since we should have been payed we are expectin it now every day i think it wil come soon as our Officers are getting rather uneasy please write often as i like to hear from home so no more at preasant

Yours as ever
