Dear Brother
do not think it strange the to read a letter letter from this place on the 7th day of March I was taken sick with the typhoid fever & left at the hospital at Clumbia within a shorty distance of Pitsburg landing taken into a small room in the third story & left alone for two days & one night raving crazy feaver running high dying for the want of water in the eavening I got word to to the Doctor & he sent me a nurce & some medacine which seemed to help me some after dark I ran away from the hospital went down to a spring stripped naked washed all over in the water & then started for a citizans house he would not let me in but sent me to the hospital my tongue sweled so full it split open to the roots I lay 16 days before the feaver was broken on the floor with one blanket under me the surgeon attended me night & day. I have not strength to tell you my suffering for want of little necessaries as I had no money i would have died on the boat if it had not been for Maling Jira who assisted me to a cabbin & board I was sent home to soon as I was not able to take care of myself the surgeon sayed I would not be able for duty in four months the feaver has not left me yiet I am at Uncle Thomases a recruiting my health the regiment is on its way home to Indianapolis to recruit they are nearly all killed & wounded there is about two hundred & sixty lef for duty. My furlough is out the 26th but I shal not be able to return perhaps not this summer I have not recieved my wages for over six months write soon direct to Morocco, Newton C.O. Ind
