Dear Brother
We have removed to to this place now on our way to Chattenoga we are 28 ms from Franklin we had hard march it was so verry warm you do not know much about warm weather up there our soldiers are in verry good health better than it has been before since the war commenced I suppose on the account of their being out so long they have got use to the hardship so it does not go so hard with what is left the weakest has all been or rather died off a great manny of our best men have been shot this is the place that the rebbels atacted whilst I were at Nashville & cleaned out I am a sitting now by the big spring where so manny Indians use to camp there is an immence sight of rocks piled up in all shapes leaving hiding places for them my health is improveing I have not the strength that I would like to have but I get along verry wel / as I am favoured a concidderable by the Officers of the Co. I had to ride a concidderable of the way from Franklin we expect to leave this place for Chattenoga before a great while there is not far from 40 thousand som sayes there is an hundred but I guess it is a mistake if there is an thousand it is enough we came here night before last we had a great time you may calculate it commenced raining about half past 9 in the eavening & it rained so hard it drove us out of our tents the ground was flooded with water I made out to get into an old stable & found a board that I layed on until morning it kept me out of the wet last night we ware called out in line of battle but had no fight as it proved to be a false alarm so goes the times in war there is nothing certain that a fellow can depend uppon we never know when we are agoing to have a fight or when we are a going to march or enny thing of the kind times are verry hard here I went down to the village yiesterday & bought my dinner there wa no flour on the table & hardly enny thing / else but they charged enough for it only 50cts there is no change to be had it is all used up it seems it is verry hard to I have recieved no wages since last November there is a concidderable a comeing to me now I have sent you a picture to keep for me until I come home if ever I should come home but huraw here goes a fight right by the table a couple of of men a fighting abought some eats it was the nicest done of enny thing that I have seen done for some time as no one interfered I have not so much as arose from my seet we are pretty use to fighting as we see so much of it the picture you wil find at the express Office & have payed the charges on it & if you want to put it in a frame I wil send you the money to pay for one as soon as I am payed off the picture is a verry perfect one of the battle field & also a perfect one of the Generls they are as natural as life but the line of battle is a little straghter than it realy was there is one thing that we feel verry bad about that is our Colonl is not on the engraving as he should be it he was kept off through an intrigue / of the Lieutenant Colonl he has tried to injure him ever since he has been in the service please keep it good if you can get it so I have no more to write so good by I have written severel letters to you & have recieved no answer yiet
