Dear Brother
I have recieved no answer yiet to the letters that I have written you but I think I will kepe a writing & a stray letter may come along some time or other I wrote you whilst Mitchellsville near the line of Ky as we were after provision the call was blown to fall in just as I put the letter in the office we reached Nashville on the second eavening & camped until knoon of the next day reached camp at night after a concidderable trouble as we had to cross a creek where the sesesh had burned the bridge & as our / waggons were heavily loaded it took a concidderable time to cross on the second day we were ordered to strike tents & change our camp now three miles in front of Nashville we have fighting every day nearly along our lines it is sayed the sesesh are in force & intend to give us battle at least our forces are prepareing for one we are nearly starved out as we have not had enny thing to eat since yiesterday knoon I must tell you what we have to live on in the first place we are on one fourth rations which consists of half rations of coffee sugar crackers & fat meat and in a great while we get some beaf which is rather poor such as as we would be afraid of not wintering throug you may / not think it strange if we should wish the war to close last night us boys found some beafs feet & skinned them so I guess we wil have some soup for dinner if it is not spilled I will not say dinner but as soon as we can get it as our stummacs calls loudly for something we do not have to drill to day but have to clean up our things My health is good at preasant so no more please write soon

Respectfully yours
