Camp near Nashville
Tenn Dec 14th 1862
Dear Brother
I recieved your letter of the 6th & pleased to hear from you as you may wel immagin as soldiers are anxious to hear from home we are stil encamped three ms east from Nashville & have been expecting a forward movement for some time but as I suppose oweing to the scarcity of supplies which cannot be furnished the Army as there is no way only by railway to move them this army wil have to remain quiet until the Ohio River rises so boats / can run On the 12th our Briggade went out a forageing started at 6 in the morning got our waggons filled about 1pm saw no Sesesh arrived at camp about eleven Oclock in the eavening after a hard days march nothing strange has happened since I last wrote you my health is verry good at preasant but somewhat run down oweing to the fatiegues & hardships that I have had to endure Our food at preasant is very good for as you may for soldiers but I would considder it rather poor if I were at home the fourth Regular Cavelry & some three other Regt of Vol Infantry were captured about a weak ago / whilst out a forageing There were five teams of our train turned over in the night as we were on our return to camp two mules killed two men badly injured it is now time for Dress parade so I wil have to quit writing I suppose you are a eating a wholesome supper such as I would give two dollars [paper hole] of them to eat [paper hole] You requested me to give you the names of all the Officers in the Regt I wil in my next letter to you the names of my Company Officers Capt Joshua Heeley Lieut Joseph Brinton the other Lieut is not here Our Colonel name is Wm Blake Lieut Colonl name is P. B. Tuman / do not write to enny of the Officers if I should not happen to write as you would like to have me because I shal write as often as convenient but if you do write to enny one write to Adonijah or Isac Smart Co. D. & be shure to tell them where to [paper hole] if enny thing should [paper hole] to me you can learn [paper hole] particulars from them as they are the most interested in my welfar of enny one in the Regt as they came from the same place where Uncle Thomas lives & are also anxious for me to court their sister I want you to write at least as often as once a weak in three weaks if you / do not hear from me & be shure to answer all of my letters as I am verry anxious to get letters from home often I am pleased to hear that I am Uncle something that I did not expect so soon you have not named it I suppose girl I am verry anxious to see my home & friends again as soon as the war ends I shal turn my face home and that place wil be the first thing that I shal think of I want you to be shure & keep my letters & if I have not reported everry thing straight to you please inform me when it is in my travails & be shure & tel me in your next letter wheather you have kept the letters / or not tel me if Francis can walk or not please write as soon as you recieve this give my love to Father Mother Brothers your wife & please except a share for yourself respects to all please take good care of my money & if you want to use enny of it do so be welcome I shal send all that I have to spare I sent the fifty dollars by by express & if you do not get the money I wil send you the reciept
