Mr. Wm H. Peck
           
Dear Sir
Your note of Jan 13 writen writen to your Brother Orrin S. Peck he not being at home was brougt to his fathers and opened they wer ghat to hear from you once more and thought it my duty to let you now the reason of his not answering it he has been away from home some time a doctoring for a cancer and when he will be at home I do not now probaly you now about his cancer beter than I can tell you & whare it is. Francis is a gaining he has got that so he can turn over one way / I think there is a chance for his recovery he has sufered enough to die a thousand deaths I have employed a Indian docttor that is a helping him he has the spinal afection. my mother says that she is not in nead of eny thing for her comfort only to have you at home as for the comforts of life she has enough to eat and war & do there health is as good as when you left home with the exception of your father he has an erupture that plages him some of the time. we are a clearing the last peace of land that is on the farm that was owned by Orrin and my self and have bought an adition to it.
           
Your father has gust come in mother and wants to what your mother wants to now what he wants written he says that he is a live yet & would be glad to see you 
 
News uncle Sidney was hear last week was very much concirned about Jira he has not heard from him sence the battle of Murfoursboro and he was afraid that he was dead or wounded but I see by your letter that he is safe yet Julia Peck is mariade to Martin Adams. Orville Wilkinson Jr. is in the army in the 114 Reg in com A. is now at New Orleans Produse is very plenty here & I should think that the soldiers could be furnished with enough to eat. Miss Dyre is very sick and probaly will never be eny better. there is a large school in this Dist. of large scholers even some marriade wiming goes to it. Oscar F. Gorham has sold his farm and is a mooveing near deposit sence last night there has come about 18 inches of snow it the first snow that has come enough to make sleighing this winter John Bloom is in the army he went from New Jersey / he is Cap of a company of men & is now on the potomuck Thomas Clancy was brought home dead from the battle of Fredericks burg he was killed by the bursting of a shell Rufus Combs has been wounded three times and is now on duty there is lots of men gone to the army from hear I guess that you have heard enough of my nonsence for once
